HP Reinsurance SPC Ltd. (HP Re), a Cayman Islands based reinsurer established by North Carolina investment adviser Hale Partnership Capital Management, has announced the appointment of Matt Walters as Chief Operating Officer, effective April 2, 2025.
Walters joins HP Re after a career at major investment banks, most recently serving as Group Head of Syndicated and Acquisition Financing within Wells Fargo’s Debt Capital Markets business for the past five years.
With two decades of transaction experience, he has led over 850 deals, raising more than $1.8 trillion in capital commitments, including over $500 billion in underwritten financing for strategic transactions.
In his new role, Walters will drive HP Re’s growth by providing innovative solutions to global insurers and reinsurers, diversifying HP Re’s exposure, and expanding activities in the loss portfolio transfer (LPT) market.
Steve Hale, Chairman of HP Re, commented, “Matt’s leadership and proven experience executing complex transactions across various capital markets and geographies will allow HP Re to provide complex and innovative capital solutions while expanding our presence in the reinsurance and retrocession markets.”
This appointment aligns with the firm’s expansion in both the reinsurance and retrocession markets. It follows HP Re assuming a 2020-2022 portfolio from ILS manager Elementum Advisors for over $44 million at the beginning of 2025.
